BLETCHER HOUR with LISA ROBERTSON | VIRTUAL
Saturday | 11 AM - 12 PM
January 23 | FREE | with Lisa Robertson
We are hosting a special morning edition of Bletcher Hour, with guest writer Lisa Robertson, to read her essay Thread-Twisters, written for Anne Low's exhibition currently installed at the SAAG. Join us online Saturday, January 23, from 11 AM - 12 PM MST over zoom.
Here's an excerpt from the text:
"And so, like a language, a politics, or any human mode of relationship, if weaving is not practiced and transformed, it can recede from community knowledge. Weaving is adjacent to bodies, and so partly describes these bodies, absorbs their stories. Knowledge can be lost. When we lose a language a story is suppressed."
Lisa Robertson is a Canadian poet, essayist and translator based in France. She's known for working in book-length projects. Her subject matter includes political themes such as gender and nation, as well as the problems of form and genre; she has written works that explore literary forms such as the pastoral, epic, and weather forecast.
The SAAG’s Critical Reading Group, named after our first librarian Hazel Bletcher, gathers online for open discussion. Readings explore key themes of the exhibitions and connect with current events, with the intent to deepen our understanding of the artworks and their context within our community.
A limited run of the Bletcher Hour Reader is published for each exhibition block, that is printed and bound in our Publication Studio, and launched at the opening. Readings are announced in advance and can be emailed by contacting Courtney Faulkner, Public Engagement & Event Coordinator | cfaulkner@saag.ca.
