SHOP FEATURE ARTIST: MOON + MAPLE

The Shop at SAAG carries unique items by top Canadian designers and artisans. From one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces to textiles to ceramics and more, you’ll find something special here at the Gallery. The Shop also carries exhibition catalogues, art books, and other publications, including those from our Tiny Press studio. The Shop at SAAG is happy to present our current feature artist: Moon + Maple by Jessica Colley.

Jessica Colley was born in Hamilton, Ontario, but has lived, learned, and worked in Southern Alberta for most of her life. She started moon + maple in 2022 as a way to explore her ever-changing crafting fixations while sharing the results with friends and family. Piece by piece, she dreams up collections inspired by the things she loves, from animals and nature to all things weird and whimsical, often changing her materials and methods to bring her ideas to life. You can find Jessica’s collection of earrings and suncatchers at the Shop in the Gallery until Sept. 28, 2024.

“This collection is the result of many nostalgic daydreams of home. Growing up, I remember the magical gardenscapes my mother built around our home in Picture Butte, AB. What I remember most fondly was seeing our plants come to life, catching bugs in the garden, and watching the light filter through the trees above me on a sunny day. When I moved away from home, I didn’t realize how much I would miss these simple moments; I wanted nothing more than to take these sensations with me. Because of this, I have centered this collection around these memories, along with the spirit of curiosity and rediscovery. Familiar garden friends take the form of hand-painted jewelry and wire-wrapped suncatchers, reminding us to pause and look closely at both the intricate beauty of nature and its often playful personality.”

SHOP FEATURE ARTIST PROGRAM

The Shop at SAAG Feature Artist program offers local artists and artisans a unique opportunity to exhibit and sell their work in a contemporary art gallery. As the feature artist, you will have the opportunity to exhibit a selection of your work in a prominent display in the Shop at SAAG for 12 to 13 weeks. Gallery staff will help you develop a unique design for the shop space to showcase your work. You’ll receive a special consignment rate and have the opportunity to work with Gallery staff to develop a public program based on your art practice. You will also be offered a free table at our Summer or Holiday Market. We will highlight your work on the Shop at SAAG’s website and through the Gallery’s social media and e-newsletter. The feature artist will also be recognized at the exhibition opening reception that aligns with your show. 

We are currently accepting applications for our Shop at SAAG Feature Artist for the following 2024-25 exhibition blocks:
