THE HEALING is a short film portraying the experience of a woman dealing with addiction. Her life unravels as she struggles to be a stable support for her family, while attempting to maintain consistency at her job. As she lies to those around her about the difficulties she is facing, her mother's spirit comes to her and helps heal her. Previously screened at Calgary International Film Festival, Indigenous Film Festival, Red Nation Film Festival, and American Indian Film Festival.

TITO GOMEZ is a Chippewa-cree & Tohono O'odham filmmaker based in Lethbridge Alberta. He collaborates on all his projects with his wife Pamela Beebe. Together they tell stories of Indigenous people from an Indigenous perspective. Their short film THE HEALING has been shown at multiple film festivals. They collaborated on a pilot for a romantic comedy series, THE LOVE OF TWO, a tale of two potential lovers whose timing together never quite aligns.
PAMELA BEEBE got into filmmaking as a way to creatively express herself. Together with her husband Tito Gomez, they tell stories as a way to connect with their community and fellow artists.
KORI-LEIGH ARCAND is Nehiyaw from Kipohtakaw First Nation, Treaty 6 territory. She is a mother to her 6 year old son Tsisga and also helps raise other children in her life. Arcand is passionate about intergenerational healing and redirecting/reconnecting First Nations youth and families back to traditional kinship and practices. She received a diploma in Social Work from the Mount Royal University in 2017 and has since been working proactively with First Nations communities to develop and implement grassroots healing programs. Arcand has been a healing dress (jingle dress) dancer since she was a small child and shares the healing of that dance with everyone in her life. When she is not mothering or dismantling colonization, she can be found tending to her garden, hiking, sewing regalia, ribbon skirts and other traditional clothing.
NATHANIEL ARCAND is a highly respected actor, who got his start starring in roles for local independent filmmakers. He is featured in the CBS Television show FBI: America’s Most Wanted as Clinton Skye. Arcand's big break came when he auditioned for the role of William MacNeil in the hit CBC TV series North of 60.
MARY FOX is a First Nations Education, Language & Cultural Consultant and Elder. She has dedicated her life’s work to teaching in many capacities, and is currently offering Blackfoot Language courses at the University of Lethbridge. Her and Elder Bruce Wolf Child held a Blackfoot Naming Ceremony at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery in 2020, honoring the gallery with the Blackfoot name Maansiksikaitsitapiitsinikssin (Mun se kse kay tse da bee tse ne kssen).
Attendees who pre-register for this event can pick up a movie-night package at the gallery of popcorn and mint tea to be enjoyed during their at-home screening.
