CHIP BAG CONFETTI | 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

This workshop will be a hands-on exploration of crafting and creating with the most abundantly available material of all: plastic waste! Participants will be led through methods of collecting, preparing, and creating a specialty confetti using potato chip bags. Participants will come away with their very own sample of this exciting crafting product as well as a new perspective on waste material and the exciting potentialities of everyday plastic packaging. All ages and skill levels welcome!

REUSABLE SANDWICH WRAP | 1 PM - 2:30 PM

Sew your own re-usable sandwich wrap with The Hobbyist! In this workshop we will be creating a practical, zero-waste object, that participants will be able to use for years to come. Throughout the workshop we will also have the opportunity to discuss the impacts of plastic and packaging and various strategies to mitigate our own complicity in a society driven on by the consumption of single-use items. All sewing skill levels are welcome!

Arianna Richardson is an artist, sewist, and mother from Treaty 7 territory (Lethbridge, AB). A graduate of the University of Lethbridge (2013) and NSCAD University (2016), Richardson has exhibited work across Canada, employing a wide variety of sculptural and hobby-craft techniques to re-create a world of hand-crafted magic. Arianna is most recently interested in sharing her passion for re-use, and the radical re-invisioning of waste material and has been leading workshops in zero-waste crafting over the past few years.

July 19 | Pom Pom Tassel Making Workshop with Meghan MacWhirter

1 PM - 2:30 PM
3:30 PM - 5 PM

In MacWhirter's workshop, she will be teaching guests how to make their own pom pom tassel hanging. These hangings are perfect as a gift or for your doorknob, for your car's rear view mirror, or for that bare spot on your living room wall! Guests will be able to choose their own colours and will learn how to make individual pom poms to make their pom pom tassel hanging uniquely theirs. Small pom poms, big pom poms, wacky pom poms, perfectly trimmed pom poms, rainbow pom poms, monochrome pom poms - the possibilities are endless!

Meghan MacWhirter is a Lethbridge-based designer and ceramicist with a passion for all things colourful, happy, and retro. MacWhirter draws inspiration from her love for the 1960s and 70s, thrifting, plants, California, Dolly Parton, and tactile and colourful objects and mediums.

MORE ABOUT THE SUMMER MARKET VENDORS

Alice and Irene Vintage

Alice and Irene Vintage is jointly run by two incredibly dear friends, Jess and Sommer, who are the granddaughters to epic collectors Alice and Irene (hence the namesake).

They both inherited a love for collecting treasures and this has translated into a great passion for actually “living with vintage”. Both of their homes and wardrobes are filled with thrifted, hunted, and preloved pieces, and sourcing retro items has become their friend love language!

Featured in this small collection are a sample of the vintage bohemian-style versatile statement pieces they’ve become known for.

Truly, they’re committed to bringing new life to otherwise discarded items and inspiring others to do the same.

Brett Bonk

Shop from an exclusive collection of handmade masks designed by Brett Bonk.

The Hobbyist

The Hobbyist (local artist and sewist Arianna Richardson) will be offering a specially-selected array of hand-embroidered patches, custom clothing, zero-waste products, and mini-artworks.

Jami

Jami showcases a love for fashion that is expressed through accessories. It's always a fun surprise to open your purse or wallet and see funky colours or unique patterns in the lining. Whether it's vintage fabric lining or a screen print of an original drawing, designs by Jami add little extra piece of fun.

Fashion history inspires this collection of exclusive wallets, created with 70's-inspired stripe motifs and designed exclusively for the Summer Market. Each wallet shell is made from vegan leather and pieced together with my favourite colour combinations of that far out decade.

Mark Karsten

Local artist Mark Karsten is born and raised in Lethbridge and has been writing for seven years. The Vigilant Principle is his first novel in print - it tells the story of a man with a skewed moral compass taking to the grey area of vigilante justice in his small town.

S.C. Creative

S.C. Creative is run by Sarah Cameron, who makes one-of-a-kind resin art and accessories. She has designed exclusive jewelry pieces for SAAG’s Summer Market.

All metals used are nickel-free; earrings are made using titanium findings and suitable for very sensitive/reactive ears.

TOOF

One of a kind, handmade earrings. TOOF is statement jewelry that's easy to wear.
