BARIYAA IPAA | PATCH PAINTING

Join artist and activist Bariyaa Ipaa for a patch painting workshop. Do you have something you want to say and display on your favourite jacket, back pack, or hat? Bariyaa will guide us through the basics of painting and stencil making, to craft a handmade set of patches that suit your style and add a statement to your everyday wear.
Bariyaa Ipaa is a fourth year Cultural Anthropology student, minoring in gender studies, and one of the founders of Now You See Us, a student-led, independent art collective occupying a liminal space at the intersection of art & social justice. As a contemporary African artist, Ipaa uses mixed media to illustrate and renarrarate African representation. Much of his work is informed by his lived experiences, his dual African Canadian identity and most importantly, his mother. Furthermore, Ipaa is the co-founder of Art with Purpose, an organization created in 2015 that uses art to inspire social change. The goal of Art with Purpose is to practice in sustainable community development by using a collaborative approach that gives communities agency.
