Join us for this online celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day. This live-streamed concert will feature performances by Bebe Buckskin, Lucid 44, Willy Big Bull, and Double Rider, with exclusive interviews with each of the artists conducted by Marley HeavyShield.

Bebe Buckskin
The honeyed snarl of Metis/Cree artist Bebe Buckskin is a reckoning force. Described by her contemporaries as a cultivated Joplin-St. Marie hybrid, Buskin knows herself and her story well, cultivating a delightful fusion of rhythm & blues, classic rock, and soulful roots that warms the heart of all who see her perform. She intentionally takes up space as an uncompromising and headstrong creator, carefully weaving kaleidoscopic metaphor with astuteness in her songwriting.

With multiple chart-successes on the Indigenous Music Countdown, her sophomore EP “Asiskiy,” which means “Earth” in Cree, was released in April 2020. Buckskin is a recent recipient of the Canada Council for the Arts: Creating, Knowing & Sharing grant, and is recording a full length album debut with her band, fusing blues rock with traditional Indigenous music. Described by Buckskin as an “inter-tribal collaboration” the album will feature the Medicine Tail Singers of the Choctaw Tribe in Alabama, and Derek Miller of the Mohawk from 6 Nations, Quebec.

Rooted in the honour of her unwavering, authentic spirit, Bebe Buckskin is a uniquely captivating artist. Her genuine passion and poetry is magnetic, offering an insightful understanding of the world and herself.

Lucid 44
Self-described as "sad death folk," Calgary's Lucid 44 has been tucked away quietly making the kind of moody, layered slow-burners that just seem to burrow their way deep down inside the listener and just radiate, like the embers at the tail end of a campfire. The brainchild of Leslie Mark Overland, Lucid 44's quiet tension hammers home the notion that while maybe it won't all be okay, that's sometimes alright.

Willy Big Bull
Singer-songwriter Willy Big Bull is a local favourite, often found singing his soul out at your go-to music joint. Born in Wenatchee, Washington, Big Bull now calls Lethbridge home. His father is from Piikani Nation of the Blackfoot Confederacy, and Big Bull himself is now a parent, with a deep belief that empowering children is the key to a positive future together. He’s always loved music, finding it a place to express himself, tap into beauty and love, and to connect with others.

Double Rider
This rock and roll band from Siksika Nation, features the talents of Hannah Owl Child, Lennon Owl Child, and Erin Many Heads. This trio will offer a captivating performance, sharing their talents of writing and playing original music together in a genre they love.

These are bound to be a series of powerful performances and interviews you won’t want to miss! The link to this event will be publicly shared on saag.ca and ckxu.com.
