DR. ANNE DYMOND | Diversity Counts: Gender, Identity, and Contemporary Art in Canada
Dr. Anne Dymond will be joining us to discuss a chapter of her recently published book Diversity Counts: Gender, Identity, and Contemporary Art in Canada, a quantitative assessment and qualitative analysis of gender and diversity in contemporary Canadian art institutions. It reveals the gulf between institutional mandates — which often stress inclusion and diversity and institutional practice. Statistical analysis, interviews, and discursive analysis provide a ground-breaking study of contemporary curatorial practice that make a significant contribution to understanding of Canadian museums.
Dr. Anne Dymond teaches Art History at the University of Lethbridge, and has since 2000. Her current research focuses on gender and diversity equity in contemporary art in Canada. Prior research projects focused on politics, power, cultural geography, and gender in late 19th and early 20th-century French art.
