Double Feature: Celebration of Light and A Girl Is a Fellow Here

April 24, 12:00pm - 01:00pm

Celebration of Light
Length: 26 minutes
"Celebration of Light", which premiered on PBS/WTTW in January 2010, is a short documentary which chronicles the entire process of restoring the world's largest Tiffany stained glass dome. Housed in Preston Bradley Hall at the historic Chicago Cultural Center, the dome's restoration required that all of the more than 30,000 pieces of glass be individually removed, restored, and reinstalled.

A Girl Is a Fellow Here—100 Women in the Studio of Frank Lloyd Wright
Length: 20 minutes
The documentary, which profiles the many female architects who collaborated with Wright – who employed professional women long before many of his contemporaries– originally premiered as a part of the Guggenheim Museum’s 50th Anniversary program in 2009. A practicing architect for 35 years, Ms. Willis had become aware of the way in which women’s designs – no matter how well-publicized or lauded – tended to vanish from the architectural memory. Research showed that many remarkable building designs – and the women architects who designed them, beginning in the early 1900s – were undocumented, unknown, forgotten.
